WELCOME

Enormous changes have taken place in the use of land along the Atlantic coast of Florida in the last 100 years, altering much of the natural environment. The construction of Florida Highway A1A acted as a catalyst for this transformation. The state-long natural coast evolved over the last century until it is at present predominantly urbanized, with natural areas remaining only here and there. The results of this century of change—the present natural and built environment that comprises the A1A coastal corridor—form the emphasis of my book, Evolution of a Coastal Treasure: Florida's Highway A1A.
